- While hewing, a small piece of coal struck him in the eye. He continued to work till the 9th April, but was under medical care from 22nd March. He died on November 4th, and an inquest was held on November 8th by Deputy Coroner Badcock. The verdict of the jury was:- "In accordance with medical evidence. The primary cause being the injury which the man received, the secondary cause being Sarcoma following on the injury received.".
