- Details of Event
- He was assisting a deputy to cut balk holes at the face when a four inches thick dropped from the roof and caught him on the back and head. His injuries were apparently superficial and he walked home. He took to his bed some days after, and on February 4th, on the doctor's advice, he came downstairs, but the exertion caused by returning proved too much for him and he died the same day from heart failure. At an inquest held two days after, the jury returned a verdict of "death from failure of the heart's action indirectly caused by shock after the injury by the fall of shale".
