6 July 1927: Broomhouse Mine Fatality – The death occurred yesterday of Gardner Hannah (52), an underground motorman, 2 Muirside Rows, Baillieston, who met with an accident in the main haulage road of Broomhouse Colliery, of the Mount Vernon Colliery Co. (Ltd.) He had been knocked down by four empty coal hutches, which had become disconnected from a rake of thirteen going to the coal face. [Scotsman 7 July 1927]
