- Details of Event
- Deceased had been down the pit, but as there was no work for him he, with eight others, returned to the surface, some of the men alighting from one side of the cage and some from the other. Deceased was the last to pass the banksman, who then proceeded to push the empty tubs on to the cage, but on turning round he saw deceased fastened under one of the drop cages used for the simultaneous decking. He was severely crushed and died on 24th May. Why deceased went under the fence and beneath the drop cages instead of taking the proper road is inexplicable.
