- Details of Event
- He was in the act of climbing over a full tram at the Black Vein mouthing 50 yards from the bottom in order to get into the cage to assist to lift the full tram on the rails the cage was drawn up resulting in deceased and the tram falling to the bottom. A signal appears to have reached the engineman from the pit bank and it apparently resulted from the assistant banksman when squeezing between the leg of the pulley frame and a tram (about 9 inches) unknowingly and accidentally causing the signal to go. The signals are electric, and in this case the push was of an old type not countersunk and consequently liable to a thing of this kind, but a more up to date arrangement has now been adopted.
