- Cage overwind. 2 killed 11 injured. Two men are dead and 11 injured as the result of a tragic cage accident at No.3 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Fallin on Sunday afternoon (1 July 1934). The accident occurred when the day shift men were being brought up to the surface and the back shift men were being taken below. The descending cage carried seven men while the ascending cage carried six men. The men who died as a result of their injuries were Walter Agnew (27), 21 B Block, Fallin, who had received severe leg injuries and George Kerr (61), 8 A Block, Fallin. Agnew succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night and Kerr, who sustained a compound fracture of the arm and leg, lingered on till Monday. (Stirling Journal).
