- 19 January 1916: Fatal Colliery Accident In Lanarkshire - James Hamilton (41), foreman joiner, residing at Inglemuir, Coalburn, has died as the result of injuries received in an accident at Auchlochan Colliery. In an endeavour to stop some waggons which had been put in motion he picked up a piece of timber about six feet long in order to sprag one of the wheels. The timber rebounded striking Hamilton violently and throwing him beneath, the wheels of the waggons, which passed over him. [Scotsman 24 January 1916]
