- 27 November 1942: Fatal Clay-Pit Mishap - An accident which occurred yesterday in the Drum clay pit, situated near Whitburn, and belonging to the United Collieries, Ltd., resulted in the death of Alexander Hamilton (56), Calder Crescent, Armadale. He was caught under a fall of clay and was seriously injured, his death occurring while he was being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He leaves a wife and family. [Scotsman 28 November 1942]
