Whilst engaged in shunting operations, deceased endeavoured to uncouple a wagon with his brake stick. The coupling was apparently stiff and he was unable to uncouple at the first attempt. He thereupon put his weight on to the end of the brake stick, causing the coupling to detach suddenly and he fell with both legs across the rails. A wagon and one wheel of the locomotive passed over his legs and he died the same evening from his injuries.
