- Details of Event
- A machine shot, situated about 100ft. above the level of the floor of the quarry, was charged with 15lbs. of gelignite and fired by fuse, during the breakfast hour, when all the workmen had been cleared out of the quarry. Deceased and a number of others were sitting at breakfast in a smithy, when a stone, weighing fully 1 cwt., crashed through the roof and struck him on the face killing him instantly. The stone in its path had passed over a vertical rib of rock about 80ft. in height. Three other workmen who were in the smithy were more or less injured at the same time.
