- Deceased had gone into a heading in Heathen coal, about 18 feet wide, to measure up the face. The coal was 4 feet thick with about 3 feet of rock and shale above which is worked off first. This had been taken off for about 3 feet along the face and short props set from coal to roof. Deceased sat on top of coal when a piece of the top stone fell away striking him, on the back fracturing his spine. He died 2lst May.
