- Details of Event
- He was setting some extra timber in his working place when a large fall of roof occurred. Hill and his trammer, was working near him, each ran in opposite directions along the face, but Hill was caught and buried. Every possible effort was made to release him, but only his head could be recovered at first. Owing to further falls it took 12 hours to release him. He lived until he was being taken out to the shaft, when he died from shock and severe injuries to the hips. The fall was due to a vertical slip running along the coal face.
