He had taken out two props and got some ripping down near the left side of a cross-gate, in front of a chock, and was putting stone in the pick at the opposite side of the gate when some stone fell from a cavity made by a previous fall and knocked cut several bars with their covering wood and dirt. The timber and stone fell upon him and killed him instantly. Some of the stone must have been loose, but being out of sight, was not detected.
