- Details of Event
- A gut of ore 10 to 15 feet wide had been mined upwards from the 60-fathom level and terminated at a shaly sandstone bed 18 inches thick above which was a black parting. The working of the highest portions of the ore had been carried on from a platform consisting of heals let into the sides covered with other timber and debris. Five props set on this platform supported the shaly sandstone bed near the face of work behind them it had been taken down. The morning inspector when examining before work commenced found the shaley sandstone bed given a little the miners were warned and the overman sent for who after examining the place, prudently ordered middle propping under the heads as a preliminary measure and while this was being done the roof swung out the props fell and broke through the platform and caught deceased.
