14 November 1939: Kilsyth Pit Fatality - While at work in the Haughrigg section of Dumbreck No.2 Colliery, Kilsyth, John Haggart (52), miner, Mid Barrwood, Kilsyth, was pinned down by a massive stone, and killed It was two hours before he was extricated, and the body had to be carried a distance of 1 1/2 mile to the pit bottom before being brought to the surface.
