- Details of Event
- Deceased was holing at the buttock in the Winpenny Seam when a piece of roof bass about 4ft. 6ins. square and 6ins. thick fell from between two parallel slips converging upwards. The fall which buried deceased, reeled a prop and broke the lid on another prop. Deceased died five days later from injuries to the pelvis and bladder. The roof in this part of the mine was not good there being an unusual and treacherous layer of bass between the coal and the hard bind. It is probable that no fall would have occurred if all props had been set with substantial lids over them.
