23 May 1917: James Guthrie, brusher, 291 Broad Street, while at work on Wednesday night in the Gordon Pit, Raith Colliery, was pinned under a fall from the roof. The fall was so heavy that it took a considerable time to extricate him. He was conveyed home and attended to by Dr Primmer, who found him to be suffering from severe bruises on the left arm and on the right shoulder. [Dunfermline Journal 26 May 1917]
