20 April 1943: Colliery Tragedy – Walter Banks, miner, 13 Preston street, High Valleyfield, was fatally injured yesterday when he was caught by a fall of material from the underground workings of Valleyfield Colliery. He died from his injuries in Dunfermline and West Fife Hospital a few hours after the accident. [Scotsman 21 April 1943]
