While he was in a stooping position and in the act of shovelling debris from the foot of an overhanging face of soft overburden 9 feet 6 inches in height a piece of ground, 10 feet long by about 2 feet 6 inches by 4 feet 6 inches deep, fell and partially buried him. He died on the following day.
