When last seen alive before the accident he was riding on a shackle between the last two trams of a full journey up the engine plane, and appears to have been killed by being crushed against the roof, as he was found lying on his back across the last tram. The districts are all being worked back to the slope, in consequence of which the slope at the lower end is rather low even for the rider. It is said that riding was prohibited but the prohibition was certainly not enforced. (Mechanical haulage).
