While removing the sticks of a pair of timbers which he had just knocked out from under this second rippings, a stone about 21 feet square and 6 inches thick fell and caught his head causing injuries from which he died on the 28th May, 1908. Apparently he had not used a gablock and chain which he should have done and which was available for drawing the timber.
