- The accident happened at the working face in the New Mine clay. Deceased was engaged throwing dirt by hand, into an opening when a piece of clod 7.5 feet long, 2 feet 2 inches wide, at the base, tapering to a ridge9 inches high fell from between a slip and a break both of which were unseen and fractured his skull. He died the same day. The roof was supported with props and lids set 4 feet apart. One prop was reeled out and two lids on other props were broken by the fall.
