- Details of Event
- Deceased, an experienced collier, was cutting coal in the Nine feet seam, when a piece of cliff 7.5 feet by 3 feet by 21 feet thick, fell from between two slips on to him, and injured him so severely that he died in 4 days. He is said to have examined the reef by sounding half an hour before the accident. A prop which had been set at the edge of the stone might have kept it up if it had a lid on.
