- Deceased, whose hearing was a little defective in one ear, was employed in the timber yard at this pit and he stepped out from behind a stack of timber on to a line of rails, with a gradient of 1 in 28, up which is locomotive engine was pushing 5 waggons, 3 of which were loaded with duff, at a speed of 10 miles per hour. This driver saw him come from behind this timber, and whistled, but could not prevent the accident and deceased was knocked down and both legs were cut off. This Local Inspectors reported, ‘We are unable to give an opinion how the accident occurred.’
