- 13 October 1944: Bevin Boy Killed At Fife Pit - William R. Grieve, 18-year-old Bevin boy, residing c/o Miners' Hostel, Muiredge, was killed at Francis Colliery, Dysart, to-day when he overbalanced and fell down the pit shaft. Grieve was carrying forward material to be sent down the shaft on ground level shortly after 6 a.m. when he accidentally fell. His body was recovered later on the bottom of the shaft. Grieve was a recent arrival at the pit, and his home was in Orkney, where he was employed in the grocery trade before being directed to the mines. [Evening Telegraph 13 October 1944]
