He had lowered a cage down the blind pit a distance of 36 yards and pinned down the brake when another full hutch was brought out, which became derailed. He assisted to get it on, and evidently forgetting the cage was at the bottom of the shaft, he pushed the hutch against the safety rates [gates?], which gave way, and he and it fell to the bottom of the shaft.
