- Details of Event
- Deceased was wedging down a piece of top coal in the Shallow seam when a piece of roof, 13 feet long, 2 feet 9 inches wide, and from 13 inches thick at one side tapering to a feather edge at the other, fell from between an unseen glassy slip on the line of the coal face and a parallel pressure break. One and three quarter hours previously, before the top coal was got down, the fireman had drawn deceased's attention to the break in the roof, and had warned him to be very careful as he proceeded with his work. A couple of foresets would probably have prevented the accident.
