- Details of Event
- Fell from cage at pump lodge inset in shaft, 150 yards from surface to the bottom, 410 yards from the surface. The mud was being cleaned out of the lodge, deceased had put a tub full of mud into the top deck, had the cage raised so that an empty tub could be drawn out of the bottom deck, lifted the catch holding the tub in, went into the cage, laid hold of the empty tub to draw it out, but for some unknown reason the tub went out of the open end of the cage taking deceased with it. When he raised the front catch, he at the same time raised the catch at the other end of the cage, leaving it open for the tub to run out at that end.
