Fall of roof (bass) while repairing in the Holly Lane seam. A very small piece bass fell on his hand and knocked some skin off. He did not report the accident and worked for few days after. An ulcer formed his hand which was not attended to and on the 9th July he applied to the manager for a recommendation to the hospital. This was the first intimation the colliery officials received that he had been injured. He died in the hospital of acute meningitis on the 19th July.
