- Details of Event
- Deceased was watching a journey of 16 trams of coal being lowered down a road of varying gradients towards the pit by a tail rope, when a small D link, connecting the rope cap with the bull chain, broke, and the latter, swinging round, struck him in the groin. The breakage was due to the sudden strain caused by the rope dropping over the cheek of the drum on to the shaft. The driver was undoubtedly giving slack with his engine and gave too much. His pelvis was fractured and he died on April 28th.
