Details of Event
He was lifting iron girders with a travelling crane by the side of a road dipping 1 in 80. He had to move the crane a distance of about 10 yards and while doing so lost control of it. He shouted to some to put a sprag in and this was done by two men, but the crane either went over or crushed them. He then jumped off in front of the crane and tripped and was fatally crushed. The crane is fitted with an efficient brake and can be stopped by keeping the engine in gear and reversing but the brake after the accident was off and the engine out of gear.
