Died December 8th. While deceased a another shiftman the overman also being present were making a place for a small haulage and pumping plant the side of the main haulage road in Yard Band a stone about 2 feet square and 6 inches thick fell from the roof and rebounding from a chock struck his knee. He never worked afterwards. The doctors who attended him found no external wound but the knee joint was seriously injured, and on Nov. 25th he was operated on and some pieces of broken bone removed. He did not do well after the operation and eventually died from septic pneumonia the result of the operation rendered necessary by the accident.
