He was sent by the overman to guard a certain road during the firing of five shots; the shots were fired one after the other with about 10 minutes interval between each. He was found, dead, under the debris of the last shot. Apparently he returned to the place where the shots were being fired after the fourth had gone off, having miscalculated the number, and arrived at the spot at the moment of the explosion of the fifth one.
