- Details of Event
- Deceased was engaged in building packs in longwall workings in the Clutch Brow District of No.3 Dip, in the Yard band, at a point where the face was advancing at right angles to the old longwall face. A stone, 5 foot by 1 foot 3 inches, and 2 feet thick, fell upon him from above the coal, and extending to the face, killing him instantly. The stone had a free side next the old goaf, and this, with a slip and a breaker, made it practically free all round. A prop and head was canted out. There was loose timber at hand to set. The deputy had been in the pace an hour before the accident and all appeared safe.
