- Details of Event
- Died February 18th. Deceased who watched a level crossing on the private railway from the colliery had come from his post with a workman's train to the road leading to his home. At this point are brickworks owned by the colliery company and on one of the line of rails leading to them stood a tank locomotive. The night was dark and foggy and the read near the railway very muddy and after leaving the workman's train deceased appeared to have lost his direction and was retracing his steps and was knocked down by the tank locomotive which moved forward in response to a signal from the fireman who was on foot ahead of it. The locomotive appears to have passed over deceased and his head was cut and one foot crushed. The tank locomotive had no side light on the side from which deceased retraced his steps.
