- Details of Event
- Deceased had played truant from school and was amusing himself, with two other boys, on the sidings behind the pit in to which the empty trucks were placed. A North-Eastern Railway loco motive pushed 29 trucks into the siding 418 yards west of the pit. The engine left and the trucks were being slowly lowered by gravity to the pits when deceased, who was seen to be riding on the buffer or brake of the first, fell before it and sustained injuries causing his death an hour later. The sidings are fenced and there is no right of way where the accident happened.
