Details of Event
He died on the 1st June from blood poisoning alleged to have supervened upon a scratch on the middle finger of his right hand. The wound was only assumed (and was not proved) to have occurred while at work in the colliery. He also very slightly injured or knocked his arm (probably at the same time) in lifting a tram on to the rails but he was not alleged to have been the cause of or to have contributed to his death. This case would probably not have come under my notice were it not for the Compensation Act.
