It was part of his duty to shovel the small coal which leaked from a belt delivering to the coal washer into a shoot, the small coal also fell on the opposite side of the fence, a rake was provided to scrape it out. This rake was not kept in a handy place for use, and deceased probably found it easier to get through the fence and use the shovel, and was evidently doing this when he was caught by a revolving shaft and killed.
