- Details of Event
- Deceased was setting a sprag before commencing to hole at the face in a stall in the holly Lane seam, when a heavy goth occurred and about 4 yards of coal and rock burst off the face and fell upon him. At this face the section of the seam was unusual, the roof being rock underlaid by 5ins. of coal with a band of rock 14 ins. thick lying on the seam. On account of this band of rock two stretchers had been set from each face prop, one to the coal and one to the rock, in addition to the regular sprags. Two props with the accompanying stretchers and one sprag were thrown out by the fall.
