- Details of Event
- He was riding on a full train of tubs which were being brought to the shaft, and thinking one of three tubs which were behind him had got off the road he raised his head to see, and, in doing so, it was caught by a ledge in the roof, and he was so seriously injured that he died on reaching Rotherham Hospital. The train was moving at a slow speed, not more than two miles an hour at the time. Pillars are being taken out by the side of the road, and the floor is continually lifting, and it is necessary therefore to keep making height. At the point where he was caught the height was 3ft 9in which gives 9in space between the top of the tub and the roof.
