- 15 January 1923: Fatal Accident In A Hamilton Pit - Thomas Gold, a coal-cutting machineman, residing at 17 Johnstone Street, Hamilton, lost his life while at work in No.1 Pit, Neilsland colliery, Hamilton. He was engaged at a coal-cutting machine, when he was caught by a slack rope. He was thrown among the revolving picks, and so severely injured that he died almost immediately. Gold, who was 26 years of age, is survived by a widow and two children. [Scotsman 17 January 1923]
