- Roof fall. Frank Given, who was employed as a bencher in No.2 pit, Polmaise Colliery, Milihall, met his death under tragic circumstances there on Thursday afternoon. Given had finished his shift for the day and was passing down 'the Cousie Brac' of No 6 level towards the pit bottom, when he was buried by a fall of about 30 or 40 cwt of stone, which came away from the roof. The accident was not observed at the moment, but shortly afterwards, attention was directed to what had occurred by the burning of a lamp. When Given was extricated he was found to be dead and death must have been instantaneous. Deceased was only 19 years of age and resided with his mother at 34 Broad Street, Stirling.
