7 July 1922: Miner Killed in Fife Pit - John Gilmour (58), who resides in Methil, was killed by a fall from the roof in the Wellesley Colliery of the Wemyss Coal Company yesterday. He was buried under some 40 tons of redd, and death was instantaneous. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. [Scotsman 8 July 1922] Falls in Mine (b) Falls of Roof – He was in the act of taking loose coal off the waste working place when 11 cwts. Of crow coal fell from the roof and killed him instantly.
