29 September 1933: Patrick Gillespie (26), pit brusher, while at work yesterday was killed instantaneously by a fall of material at the coal face in one of the underground workings of the Fordel Mains Colliery Company (Ltd.), Cauldhouse, near Dalkeith. Gillespie was a native of Arranmore, Donegal, and had been employed at various collieries in Midlothian during the past ten years. [Scotsman 30 September 1933]
