- Details of Event
- Run over on the colliery company private branch line in the colliers train in which he and others were travelling from their work. The loco driver had placed his engine at the rear end of the train and forgot to couple it to the carriages before starting. From the level siding at the colliery about 60 to 100 yards in length on which the train was standing there was an incline of 700 yards at a gradient of 1 in 57 and the carriages appearing to get out of control a number of men jumped out. Deceased in doing so in some manner got under the carriages. The man in the guards van on realising what had happened applied the brakes and quickly brought the train to stand on the level road at the bottom of the incline. The accident happened through the loco driver who was in charge neglecting to couple the engines to the carriages there being no guard.
