- 18 March 1931: Methil Pit Fatality - Thomas Gilbert, miner, residing at Methilhill, died on Wednesday in the Wemyss Memorial Hospital, Buckhaven, from injuries received while at work in Wellsgreen Pit, Windygates. Along with another miner, Alexander M'Lean, also of Methilhill, he was caught and buried by a head fall. M'Lean escaped with slight injury, but Gilbert, who was imprisoned for several hours, sustained a fractured spine. He was 24 years of age and unmarried. [Dunfermline Journal 21 March 1931]
