- 6 August 1917: Drowned In A Pit Pond – The body of a man was found floating in the pond at Bent Colliery, Hamilton, on Monday forenoon, and was subsequently identified as that of George Gibson, a miner, 65 years of age, who resided in the Bent. He had been ailing for several years and unable to work, and latterly had been somewhat depressed. [Hamilton Advertiser 11 August 1917]
