- Details of Event
- Deceased and another stoneman were taking down top canch at the face of gateways in the Yard seam. They had fired at intervals three successful shots in the place where the accident happened. After the third shot they commenced to rid and pack and while deceased was getting stones just under the lip of the canch a stone 18 inches thick fell from the brow and killed him. The stone was liberated by a slip and a break and was probably loosened by the shots. There was no timber under it but the breaking off props props were close to it. The chargeman father of the stoneman who worked with deceased had examined the place twice during the shift. The Local Inspectors did not examine the place until after the fall had been cleared away, which was done after Mr. Abbott had examined it and they made no report.
