Deceased was riding on the last of a journey of 18 empty trams which was being hauled up a gradient of 3 inches per yard by a single rope, when a D link, connecting two portions of the rope broke, and the journey ran back over deceased, who had fallen off the tram with the jerk. The broken link showed a clean slightly crystalline fracture.
