- Details of Event
- He was engaged in the operation of working the compressed mine dust, which had accumulated at the surface of the mine during probably 30 years. The method of working is similar to a longwall coal face without the roof. The face is 5 feet high and is holed to a depth of 3 feet 6 inches chocks of wood being placed under in a horizontal position. The accident was due to portion of the front of the face breaking away and falling on deceased as he was in a lying position. His mate stated that he had never seen this happen before. The injuries were very severe considering the small amount which fell. The unfortunate man died in the infirmary on the same day.
